GMPOA WEEKLY ROAD REPORT, JULY 27-31, 2026
Work Completed
Over the last four weeks, the GMPOA has completed one of the largest road improvement efforts our community has ever seen. The rebuilding of Chimney Lakes Road is now nearing completion for this construction season, with more than 4 miles of roadway significantly improved.
Completed work over the past four weeks includes:
Rebuilding more than 4 miles of Chimney Lakes Road.
Grading more than 31 miles of GMPOA roads.
Widening narrow and hazardous sections to improve safety.
Constructing miles of roadside ditching to improve drainage and extend the life of our roads.
Building and strengthening road surfaces by placing a solid rock base and finishing with a quality top layer for improved durability and year round performance.
Hauling and placing nearly 700 yards of aggregate.
Replacing multiple deteriorated culverts to improve water flow and protect the roadway.
Replacing multiple cattle guards to improve safety and reliability.
Cleaning and reshaping drainage areas, water bars, and road surfaces throughout the community.
These improvements provide safer roads, improved drainage, and a more durable driving surface that will benefit property owners for years to come.
Work has also begun on several additional miles of roadside ditching throughout the community. Proper drainage is one of the most important investments we can make in extending the life of our roads and reducing future maintenance costs.
As ditching operations continue, we ask everyone to please be patient. Building quality drainage requires multiple passes with the equipment. During construction, roads may temporarily become rough or messy as material is loosened and reshaped. Crews will continue returning over the coming weeks to deepen, clean, and finish the ditches while restoring the road surface.
We would also like to thank Powell County for sending a grader to assist with road maintenance. During their visit, they graded the first two miles of Jens Exit Road, and we sincerely appreciate their continued partnership and support.
Equipment Update
The D6 bulldozer will be returning to the rental company this coming week after completing the majority of the Chimney Lakes Road reconstruction project.
Looking Ahead
Over the next week or two, crews plan to return to 17 Mile Road to remove and replace one of the remaining deteriorated cattle guards. A temporary bypass will also be constructed to allow traffic to continue moving safely while the cattle guard replacement is underway.
Road crews will also continue expanding and cleaning roadside ditches throughout the community as part of our long term drainage improvement efforts. These projects are critical to protecting our roads from water damage and reducing future maintenance costs.

Thank you to all of the board members, Road Committee members, and community volunteers who continue to dedicate countless hours planning projects, operating equipment, hauling materials, coordinating logistics, and handling the many behind the scenes tasks that make this progress possible.
The accomplishments of the past four weeks demonstrate what can be achieved through teamwork and a shared commitment to improving our roads. While there is still work ahead, the progress made this season has resulted in safer roads, improved drainage, and long lasting infrastructure improvements that will benefit the entire GMPOA community for years to come.
GMPOA WEEKLY ROAD REPORT, JULY 20-24, 2026
Road work continued this week on Chimney Lakes Road and Hoover Creek Road. Progress included drainage improvements, road widening, reshaping problem areas, placing base rock, repairing another culvert, and beginning removal of material from the Hoover Creek rockslide.
Equipment failures slowed portions of the planned work, but crews continued making progress wherever possible.
Equipment Update
The road grader was returned to the rental company after it required service and a new cutting edge. The bulldozer was delivered and operated for two days before its water pump failed. The rental company has been notified and is expected to repair the bulldozer next week.
These equipment problems slowed progress, but road work continued where possible using the equipment and materials available.
Chimney Lakes Road
Work continued on Chimney Lakes Road with improvements focused on drainage, road safety, and long term stability. Crews created new ditching and water bars to help move water away from the roadway and reduce erosion and mud buildup.
Several dangerous narrow areas were widened, and problem sections of the road were reshaped to improve drainage, travel conditions, and overall road structure.
Base rock was also placed in areas with heavy clay and recurring mud problems during wet weather. Once the bulldozer is repaired and the remaining dirt work is completed, a top layer of higher quality road material will be placed over the base rock.
Hoover Creek Road
Another culvert near Hoover Creek was repaired to improve drainage and help protect the roadway from future washouts and erosion.
Crews also began removing rock from the rockslide along Hoover Creek Road. That material is being reused as base rock in areas that regularly become muddy during the rainy season.
A top layer of better road material is planned for those sections during the coming week to improve the road surface and provide a more durable finished layer.
Work Planned for the Coming Week
Work will resume on Chimney Lakes Road once the rental company repairs the bulldozer. Crews plan to complete the remaining dirt work, including additional ditching, widening, water control, and reshaping where needed.
After the bulldozer work is completed, a finished top layer of road material will be placed over the base rock on Chimney Lakes Road.
Work will also continue along Hoover Creek Road. Rock from the slide area will continue to be removed and reused as base material in muddy sections. A finished top layer of better road material will then be placed over those areas.
Crews also plan to address the other deteriorated cattle guard near the 17 mile mark.
Driver Advisory
Drivers should use caution in active work areas along Chimney Lakes Road and Hoover Creek Road. Loose rock, uneven surfaces, narrowed travel lanes, and equipment may be present while work is underway.
Please reduce speed, watch for workers and equipment, and avoid disturbing newly placed road material whenever possible.
Closing
Despite the equipment setbacks, steady progress was made this week on Chimney Lakes Road and Hoover Creek Road. The focus remains on improving drainage, correcting problem areas, strengthening muddy sections, and making the roads safer and more reliable.
The GMPOA Board, Road Committee, and community volunteers continue to spend significant time operating equipment, hauling and placing material, planning upcoming work, and handling the coordination required behind the scenes.

Road Maintenance Update
Another productive week is in the books as we continue improving roads throughout the GMPOA. Our focus remains on grading, improving drainage, and addressing problem areas before they become larger issues. While there is still a great deal of work ahead, each week brings measurable progress toward safer, more reliable roads for everyone in our community.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as this work continues. Road maintenance is an ongoing effort, and we remain committed to making steady, long term improvements throughout the community.
Work Completed This Week
An additional 12 miles of GMPOA roads were graded this week, bringing the total to 30 miles of road grading completed over the past two weeks.
Additional work completed includes:
• Replaced one of the cattle guards on the 17 with a larger unit, creating a much safer crossing for residents and emergency vehicles.
• Cleaned and repaired the cattle guard on Chimney Lakes Road, including the installation of new cattle guard bunks to provide better support and extend its service life.
• Improved drainage on Hoover Creek Road by repairing a culvert that was restricting water flow.
• Corrected a section of roadway on the 17 that had settled and was holding water, improving drainage and reducing future deterioration.
• Staged all materials needed to replace the second damaged cattle guard on the 17. Construction will begin next week and will also include a bypass around the cattle guard to improve traffic flow during future maintenance and repairs.
Chimney Lakes Road Construction Update
Major improvements to Chimney Lakes Road are now underway. A D6 bulldozer has been rented and will begin widening the roadway, cleaning ditches, improving drainage, and completing other major earthwork.
Over the next 10 days, residents should expect to see a grader, bulldozer, backhoe, and dump truck operating throughout the area. Please slow down, watch for construction equipment and workers, and use extra caution when traveling through the project area.
During construction, portions of the road may temporarily become rougher than normal. We ask for your patience while this work is being completed. These temporary inconveniences are necessary to make lasting improvements to the road.
Current planning estimates that the Chimney Lakes Road reconstruction will be a two year project, with significant improvements scheduled as funding, equipment, and weather allow.
Travel Advisory: Beginning next week, work will start on replacing the second cattle guard on the 17. Whenever possible, we encourage residents to use the Lower 14 Road by Dutch’s to reduce traffic through the construction zone.
