GMPOA
HISTORY AND MISSION
The Garnet Mountains Property Owners Association has worked to protect the interests of its member landowners for more than forty years. This non-profit mutual benefit corporation has several purposes:
- Maintaining the road network.
- Securing grazing leases to pay for road maintenance.
- Mitigating fire danger.
- Controlling the spread of invasive noxious weeds.
- Preserving, protecting, and enhancing the natural qualities of properties within the GMPOA
In 1975 the property owners created a non-profit association to promote their mutual interests. They drew up a constitution and by-laws, elected an executive committee of unpaid volunteers, and negotiated grazing leases with local ranchers. The original name, “OS Property Owners Association” was changed in 2000 to “Garnet Mountains Property Owners Association,” but the group kept the same constitution and by-laws and continued to receive income from grazing leases. In February 2021, property owners approved new by-laws for governance of our shared properties.
Road maintenance costs are covered by income from a grazing lease with the Mannix Brothers whose family has ranched in the Helmville Valley for four generations. Except for incidental expenses such as mailings and the July annual meeting, all of the income from the lease is used for road maintenance, fire suppression, and noxious weed control. The Board members serve without payment. The Board’s function is to manage the lease income for the benefit of property owners. It does not control how anyone lives, make judgments or rules, or enforce laws. The Board members are volunteers working to make life within the GMPOA a better experience for all.
The website is the one-stop information center for all GMPOA property owners.
